#PROPERTY: History & Terroir
The history of Domaine de la Solitude
The history of Domaine de la Solitude dates back to the 17th century, and is closely linked to one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's oldest and most illustrious families. The story begins with the marriage of Hélène Barberini, a descendant of the famous Tuscan family of the same name, to Claude Martin, owner of a vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The founding couple's grandson creates the first known label for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine: "le Vin de la Solitude", which is the origin of Domaine de La Solitude. Eight generations later, the estate is still family-owned and run by Florent Lançon.
Today, the estate boasts 37 hectares of vines spread over 33 parcels in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.

Domaine de la Solitude terroir
The terroir of Domaine de la Solitude is a complex natural heritage, shaped by natural elements such as the sun of Provence, the Mistral wind and the action of the Rhône river over time. This unique terroir is characterized by a diversity of soils, exposures and microclimates.
The 37-hectare estate cultivates thirteen grape varieties on its 33 plots. The vines benefit from soils rich in quartzite and safre pebbles, forming a veritable mosaic of terroirs.
