Domaine Leflaive

#PROPERTY: History & Terroir

The history of Domaine Leflaive

After the vineyards were ravaged by phylloxera in the 1920s, Joseph Leflaive, with resolute vision and unwavering dedication, decided to replant the vines, laying the foundations for the estate's renaissance. This crucial step was the starting point of a winegrowing history rich in achievement and family heritage.

Leflaive family: from Joseph Leflaive to Biodynamic pioneer Anne-Claude Leflaive

Following the death of Joseph Leflaive, his two sons, Jo and Vincent, inherited the winegrowing legacy and helped the estate prosper, carrying on the work begun by their father.

The commitment to excellence and passion for terroir have been passed down from generation to generation, guiding the estate through challenges and successes. Anne-Claude Leflaive, an emblematic figure of the estate, has played a major role in its development and international influence. Her legacy of dedication to biodynamics and artisanal winemaking has left a profound mark on the domaine and the Burgundy wine region as a whole.

Following Anne-Claude Leflaive's death in 2015, Brice de la Morandière succeeded her at the head of the domaine, continuing the family tradition and commitment to excellence. His vision and leadership have kept the estate at the forefront of innovation while preserving its heritage and reputation as a producer of world-class wines.

Who is Olivier Leflaive?

It's important to note the distinction with Olivier Leflaive, which is a domaine with a trading activity. Domaine Leflaive, run by Anne-Claude Leflaive, is located 11 km south of Beaune, close to the François Carillon and Olivier Leflaive estates.

Domaine Leflaive terroir in Puligny-Montrachet

The Domaine Leflaive terroir is located in the prestigious Côte de Beaune and Côte d'Or regions, where they produce wines of exceptional quality. It is distinguished by its privileged location in the heart of Burgundy, on land renowned for its outstanding viticultural quality.

The estate's Grands Crus, particularly those in Puligny-Montrachet, benefit from poor soil, ideal exposure and a mid-slope position, favoring optimal ripening of the grapes and giving the wines remarkable structure and finesse.

By exploring the lands of the Mâconnais, the domaine highlights the singularity of the soils and microclimates, particularly in Pouilly-Fuissé, where the richness of the terroir is reflected in the quality of the wines produced.
