Château Puech-Haut

PROPERTY: History & Terroir

History of Château Puech-Haut

The story of Château Puech-Haut is that of Gérard Bru, a successful businessman who decided to return to his Languedoc roots after a successful career in commerce. Starting with a plot of virgin land, he realized his dream of creating a vineyard. With suitable soil made up of clay, limestone and rolled pebbles, he planted vines after uprooting the existing olive trees. The farmhouse was replaced by a château built from the stones of a former prefecture. During construction, a ram's head, a relic of an ancient chapel, was discovered and became the estate's emblem. Gérard Bru called on experts and oenologists to create unique cuvées. Today, Château Puech-Haut is one of the most prestigious vineyards in the Languedoc, with some 200 hectares spread over three sectors, producing top-quality wines.

Three estates, one commitment: organic

Today, Château Puech-Haut, located northeast of Montpellier, is one of the Languedoc's most prestigious vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand at perfect maturity, and no chemical weedkillers are used. It comprises three estates:

Château Puech-Haut
Château Lavabre
Domaine de Theyron

Château Puech-Haut is the estate's main property, and also includes Château Lavabre, a 60-hectare property in the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, acquired in 2017, as well as Domaine de Theyron, a 30-hectare estate in the Languedoc Saint-Christol appellation, bought in 2016 by Gérard Bru, where organic viticulture has been practiced since 2010.

The Château Puech-Haut cellar, a place for art and creation

The Château Puech-Haut cellar is not just a place for winemaking, but also a space dedicated to art and creativity. Indeed, beyond its traditional role of wine production, the cellar is also a place where aesthetics and a passion for art come together.

La Barrik'art

The Barrik'art is an impressive giant barrel made by a craftsman from the Aveyron region of France. Measuring 12 metres by 12 metres, it has a theoretical capacity of 300,000 liters. This astonishing construction resides year-round near Château Puech-Haut. Although a monumental work of art, it is above all a technical feat. It took 5 tonnes of steel and 45 cubic metres of French oak to build.

Bib'art

La Bib'art is a unique art library. It houses a collection of barrels transformed into works of art by over 160 different artists. These include renowned artists such as Van Khache, Cavalier, Marcor, Spada, Guyot, Aski, Jofo, Consentino, Ch'ko, Desserle, Aniko, Colomina, and many more.

Each barrel is a canvas on which to express the creativity and talent of these artists, offering visitors a unique artistic experience at the heart of Château Puech-Haut.

Terroir of Château Puech-Haut, Saint Drézéry

A notable feature of this terroir is the presence of Rhone-rolled pebbles dating from the Quaternary period. These pebbles have been deposited by the river over time, helping to create a unique soil. This terroir, permeated by pebbles and influenced by the maritime climate, offers ideal conditions for viticulture. The combination of limestone, clay, pebbles and climate creates an environment conducive to the cultivation of quality grapes, giving rise to wines of great expression and complexity.

#VINS DU DOMAINE : Appellations and Cuvées

The Languedoc appellation

The Languedoc appellation, with its Mediterranean climate, is one of France's largest and oldest wine-growing regions, renowned for its diversity and richness. Located in the south of France, between the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Cévennes mountains. Traditional grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan are widely used, contributing to the uniqueness of Coteaux du Languedoc wines. These varieties have been chosen to be in perfect harmony with the vines of the terroir, enabling us to produce exceptional cuvées.

Château Puech-Haut's Clos du Pic, located 30 km from Montpellier, offers rich, fresh wines thanks to its limestone terroir. The cuvée is mainly composed of Syrah and Grenache grapes, vinified separately and then blended together. With its inky color and powerful nose of fruit and toasted wood, this wine pairs perfectly with dishes such as duck and cassoulet.

Cuvée 40ème, from the Puech-Haut terroir, is characterized by its rounded pebbles and maritime climate. Made from Syrah and Grenache grapes, this cuvée boasts a morello cherry color and an intense bouquet of ripe red fruit. Its balanced, powerful palate makes it an excellent companion for game and porcini dishes.

Cuvée Tête de Bélier Château Puech-Haut is available in three versions. The red, from the Puech-Haut terroir, combines Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, offering a garnet-black color and aromas of ripe black berries and oak. Ideal with grilled red meats and cheeses. The white, composed of Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier, seduces with its complex notes of smoke and yellow fruit, harmonizing perfectly with creamy fish and soft cheeses. As for the rosé, it boasts a rose petal color and an intense bouquet of citrus and tart fruit, for a fresh, well-balanced experience, ideal as an aperitif or with light dishes.

Château Puech-Haut Prestige comes in 2 versions. The red cuvée is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, with a deep garnet-red color and notes of black raspberry and undergrowth. Its full, complex mouthfeel makes it an excellent choice to accompany charcuterie and grilled red meats. Prestige blanc, a blend of Roussanne and Marsanne, offers notes of white-fleshed fruit and a refreshing floral finish. It goes perfectly with seafood and poultry dishes.

The Château Puech-Haut Argali range also offers quality wines, with rosés, whites and reds, each with its own character and terroir. Whether to accompany an aperitif or a full meal, Château Puech-Haut wines offer an unforgettable taste experience.
