#PROPERTY: History & Terroir

The history of Domaine Arlaud

A family history

The story of Domaine Arlaud began in 1942 with the union of Renée Amiot and Joseph Arlaud. They acquired a historic 14th-century winery in Morey-Saint-Denis, which they developed together. Then, in 2004, their son Hervé Arlaud took over, alongside his wife Brigitte, until 2012, continuing the expansion of the vineyard.

Cyprien Arlaud, a key figure in the estate's development

1 year later, it was Cyprien Arlaud's turn to take over the reins of the family estate, accompanied by his sister Bertille Arlaud on horseback. Under his leadership, the estate has grown to include 19 appellations on 15 hectares, including four prestigious Grands Crus: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint Denis, Charmes Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

The historic cellar, located in the heart of Nuits Saint Georges, is the authentic testimony of three generations of Burgundian hospitality. It also houses a precious collection of old vintages, testifying to the know-how handed down from generation to generation.

Today, Domaine Arlaud, with its modern winery and barrel-ageing cellars, continues to perpetuate tradition and excellence as one of the Côte de Nuits' leading estates.

Domaine Arlaud terroir

Domaine Arlaud's 15-hectare vineyard is steeped in the authenticity of the Burgundy terroir. Certified organic and biodynamic, it embodies a profound respect for nature and its balance.

Among the jewels of this terroir are exceptional plots such as Bonnes-Mares, Charmes-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche. These terroirs reflect the region's geological and climatic diversity, offering unique conditions for grape varieties to flourish.

#DOMAINE WINES: Appellations and Cuvées

Domaine Arlaud appellations in Burgundy

Domaine Arlaud sublimates the diversity of Burgundy's terroir through the bottling of 19 appellations. Among the best-known appellations, four grands crus stand out like stars in the firmament of Burgundy wines.

Clos de la Roche, with its age-old reputation, embodies grandeur and power. Clos Saint Denis, with its refined elegance, reveals delicate, complex nuances. Charmes Chambertin, by its very name, promises intoxicating seduction, while Bonnes Mares, renowned for its finesse, evokes a perfect harmony between terroir and domaine know-how. Beyond the grands crus, Domaine Arlaud has a special affection for Morey-Saint-Denis, an emblematic village with less than 150 hectares of vines.

Each parcel is vinified with meticulous precision, the grapes being neither destemmed nor crushed. Natural fermentation lasts around twenty days, allowing the unique characteristics of the terroir to express themselves fully.

Burgundy Roncevie, a nugget at the heart of Domaine Arlaud, symbolizes the excellence resulting from careful attention to soil work, refined ageing and subtle integration of woody notes. As an entry-level wine, Bourgogne Roncevie stands out from the start with its distinct character, capturing the richness of Domaine Arlaud's terroir and expert craftsmanship, offering an authentic and unforgettable taste experience.

Bonnes Mares reveals itself with an imposing presence, combining volume and rigor. Their austere character, like that of Cistercian art, highlights the purity of the lines, while present tannins bring amplitude and texture. Aromas subtly combine blackberry and a touch of sandalwood.

Charmes-Chambertin, meanwhile, resonates with a precision that makes the wine accessible and charming, even in its youth. Light, delicate tannins underline the wine's suppleness, promising remarkable evolutionary potential.

Clos De La Roche delivers a powerful, mineral experience, with violet as one of its distinctive aromatic markers.

Finally, Clos Saint-Denis presents itself like lace, carrying a disconcerting ambivalence between complexity and deliciousness. Each sip offers a unique sensory experience, inviting you to explore the subtle nuances of these exceptional Domaine Arlaud wines.
