The history of Château Saint-Pierre
The history of Château Saint-Pierre dates back to the 17th century, when the estate was created. Over the centuries, it was passed down through various estates, but was eventually broken up and dispersed. However, in 1982, Henri Martin, also owner of Château Gloria, undertook with passion and tenacity to reconstitute the estate as it was known in 1855, the year it was classified as a Fourth Growth in the famous Médoc wine classification. This initiative has enabled Château Saint-Pierre to regain its former unity.
Located in the commune of Beychevelle, Château Saint-Pierre's 17-hectare vineyard is planted with vines averaging 50 years of age. The property is now owned and managed by Henri Martin's daughter, Françoise Triaud, and her husband Jean-Louis Triaud, former president of the Girondins de Bordeaux between 1996 and 2017.
Château Saint-Pierre, as the Fourth Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien since 1855, is recognized as a perfect representative of the region's great wines. The bottles produced on this estate are renowned for their exceptional quality and their character representative of the Saint-Julien terroir. The grapes are still harvested by hand, in keeping with age-old Médoc traditions.
In the 1920s, the estate was briefly brought together under the aegis of an Antwerp merchant, Mr. Van den Busche, with the exception of the cellars which were acquired by Alfred Martin to store his barrels.
Today, under the management of Françoise and Jean-Louis Triaud, Château Saint-Pierre continues to prosper, producing wines that are both emblematic of their region and respectful of their rich historical heritage.
The terroir of Château Saint-Pierre in Bordeaux
The terroir of Château Saint-Pierre is characterized by the presence of Gunzian gravel on a clay-limestone layer. This combination of soils confers special characteristics on the vineyard and influences the profile of the wines produced.
Gunzian gravel is a soil composed of gravel and pebbles, typical of the Bordeaux region. They allow good drainage and promote rapid warming of the soil, which is beneficial for the vines. Clay-limestone soils, on the other hand, bring a certain mineral richness to the grapes and promote good water retention, helping the vines to cope with periods of drought.

Château Saint-Pierre 4th Grand Cru Classé
The Spirit of Saint-Pierre
Château Saint-Pierre, classified 4th Grand Cru, owes its reputation to its exceptional terroir and careful viticulture. With vines averaging 50 years of age, the estate benefits from deep roots anchored in characteristic soils of Gunzian gravel and clay-limestone. The carefully selected grape varieties, 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, give the wines remarkable structure and aromatic complexity.
Hand-picking is carried out with the utmost care, enabling a rigorous selection of bunches. Once harvested, the grapes are gently placed on optical sorting tables to eliminate any impurities, guaranteeing a raw material of impeccable quality.
During vinification, the grapes are transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, where fermentation takes place under optimal conditions, lasting a maximum of 15 days. After this crucial stage, the wines are transferred to French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months. A meticulous process of barrel renewal, carried out annually in halves, ensures a harmonious marriage between the wood and the wine being created, bringing nuances of vanilla and toastiness while preserving the expression of terroir.
Since 2015, Château Gloria's fully renovated winery has been the place where ancestral know-how and a commitment to quality are meticulously applied to shape the emblematic wines of Château Saint-Pierre. Thanks to the owners' constant investment, the estate is today unanimously recognized as a perfect representative of Saint-Julien's Grands Crus Classés, offering wines of incomparable elegance and finesse.
