#PROPERTY: History & Terroir
The history of Château Peyreau
Château Peyreau, owned by the Neipperg family since 1971, is a benchmark in the wine world, along with other prestigious estates such as La Mondotte, Canon La Gaffelière and Clos de l'Oratoire. This wine has a garnet-red color and a moderately aromatic nose. On the palate, it is round and ripe, ready to be enjoyed. However, to reveal its full potential, it should be left to air for a while.
In addition to its winemaking excellence, the château is distinguished by its imposing architecture and fascinating history. With its vast courtyard to the west, grand perrons and majestic facade to the east, overlooking the Rhône, it offers a spectacular setting. Inside, the vestibule leads to a spacious French staircase, lined with medieval vaulted rooms and sumptuous 18th-century reception rooms, bathed in natural light through large French windows.
Despite its centuries of existence, the château retains its original state, with stone, terracotta and wooden floors, doors, windows, fireplaces and interior woodwork. Decorative features such as staff decorations and 19th-century wallpaper add a touch of authenticity and charm to this historic residence, which has always been carefully lived in and maintained.
Château Peyreau terroir
The terroir of Château Peyreau is characterized by its geological diversity. At the top of the hill, the soil is mainly clay-limestone and composed of Fronsac molasse, providing ideal conditions for growing vines. This combination of soils gives the grapes good structure and great aromatic complexity. At the foot of the slope, the soil is sandy-clay, which helps retain water and regulate humidity for the vines. This diversity of terroirs enables Château Peyreau to produce balanced, expressive wines that reflect the unique characteristics of its environment.
