#PROPERTY: History & Terroir

History of Château Peyrabon

The architecture of Château Peyrabon

Château Peyrabon stands on a gravelly hilltop near Pauillac, in the heart of the Médoc region, nestled among aligned vineyards. Built in Renaissance style, its four towers, added in 1821, bear witness to its history. Its slate roof reflects the sunlight on a clear day, adding to its radiance. Surrounded by parkland adorned with century-old magnolia trees, this château exudes history and majesty.

Château Peyrabon terroir

The Château Peyrabon terroir is a jewel comprising 34 parcels, all adjacent to the château itself. These exceptional soils are composed of Garonne gravel, deposited during the Güntz Ice Age, which rests on clay subsoils. This unique combination offers optimal drainage and natural moisture regulation, favoring the development of the vines. Located close to the river, the château benefits from a temperate microclimate, influenced by the Atlantic. This proximity to water moderates temperatures and extends the growing season, providing ideal conditions for grape ripening. As for the composition of the vineyard, it is dominated by the famous black grape variety of Bordeaux's left bank, Cabernet Sauvignon, which accounts for 57% of the vineyard. It is complemented by Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (3%), each adding their distinctive characteristics to the final blend of Château Peyrabon wines.
