#PROPERTY: History & Terroir
History of Château Chapelle D'Aliénor
The story of Château Chapelle d'Aliénor began when Aliénor and Alexandre de Malet-Roquefort, working at La Gaffelière, discovered a small plot of vines in Mouliets-et-Villemartin, near Saint-Émilion,
They were attracted by the richness of the terroir, its ideal location, and the presence of an ancient chapel in the heart of the vineyards. In 2009, they acquired Château Chapelle Maracan and renamed it Chapelle d'Aliénor, succumbing to its charm. in doing so, they extended their estate to 17 hectares of sun-drenched vineyards.
This story bears witness to their passionate commitment to viticulture and their desire to create exceptional wines that fully express the richness and uniqueness of their terroir.
Château Chapelle D'Aliénor terroir
The terroir of Château Chapelle D'Aliénor is characterized by the presence of clay-limestone and gravel-clay soils. These soil types offer ideal conditions for viticulture, allowing good drainage while retaining sufficient water to nourish the vines during dry periods.
Clay-limestone soils are rich in minerals and offer good water retention, which favors the development of vine roots and contributes to the complexity of the wines produced. Gravel-clay soils, on the other hand, are generally well drained and contribute to the finesse and elegance of the wines.
By combining these two types of soil, the terroir of Château Chapelle D'Aliénor offers a diversity that allows the vines to flourish and produce high-quality grapes.

The Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations
The Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, a sub-region of the Bordeaux vineyards in France, is renowned for wines of superior quality to those of the standard Bordeaux appellation. The major difference between Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur wines lies in the nine-month minimum ageing period after fermentation before marketing. The Bordeaux Supérieur appellation draws its distinction from its great diversity of soils and microclimates, offering winemakers a terrain conducive to the production of varied, expressive wines.
