#PROPERTY: History & Terroir
The history of Domaine Jacques Cacheux et fils
Domaine Jacques Cacheux et Fils, with five generations of winemakers, embodies a deeply rooted winegrowing tradition. This small, family-run operation based in Vosne-Romanée is renowned for producing exceptional red wines in Burgundy. Domaine Jacques Cacheux is committed to preserving the authenticity of the terroir and respecting the meticulous tradition of the winemaking profession.
Patrice Cacheux, owner of Domaine Jacques Cacheux
Currently run by Patrice Cacheux, his wife Patricia, and their children, Charles and Marianne, the Cacheux family considers connection to nature to be fundamental to their approach to winemaking. They believe that the quality of a Côte de Nuits vintage is inextricably linked to the reasoned cultivation of the vines. As vineyard manager, Patrice Cacheux makes it a point of honor to cultivate his vines in a "reasoned" way, which means a respectful approach to the environment and careful attention to every detail of the production process. The grapes are harvested by hand, immediately sorted directly on the vine, and completely destemmed before being placed in open vats. The wines are vinified in the traditional way and aged in oak barrels for 18 months.
Domaine Jacques Cacheux terroir
Domaine Jacques Cacheux flourishes in the rich mosaic of terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, asserting its singularity through the diversity of its parcels.
The vines of Aux Réas are planted in clay-limestone soil, giving the grapes their characteristic elegance and well-balanced tannic structure. Aux Genaivrières, with its clay soil, adds a dimension of depth, while La Croix Rameau, on limestone soil, contributes to the wines' finesse and aromatic complexity. Aux Brulées, known for its pebble-rich soil, brings distinctive minerality and concentrated flavors.
The parcel in Nuits-Saint-Georges, located in the Au Bas de Combe climat, has characteristics specific to this particular terroir. The clay-limestone soil favors the structure and power of the wines, while exposure to the local climate adds a unique dimension to the palette of flavors.
Vosne-Romanée's Premier Cru appellations add further diversity to the estate's terroirs. The clay and limestone soils of these vineyards lend a silky elegance and distinctive finesse to the wines.
Last but not least, the centerpiece of the domaine is the parcel on the prestigious climat d'Échezeaux Grand Cru. This exceptional terroir, characterized by a complex and varied soil, offers the ultimate expression of the nobility of Burgundy wines.
