Domaine David Duband

#PROPERTY: History & Terroir

The history of Domaine David Duband

The story of Domaine Pierre Duband began in 1965 with the cultivation of fifteen hectares of vines, centered on the sale of the harvest to the Beaune cooperative. It was some 30 years later that his son, David Duband, took up the reins and founded Domaine David Duband with an initial operation of 1.5 hectares. David revitalized the family domaine with the acquisition of a magnificent parcel of Echezeaux Grand Cru and a parcel of Vosne-Romanée.

David Duband's bold vision was extended in 2002 with the creation of a grape-buying company, broadening the domaine's horizons to include wines from the villages of Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin. The acquisition of the 7-hectare Domaine Truchot in 2006 further strengthened the domaine's reputation.

Domaine owner David Duband marks a turning point with the development of the estate, including the construction of a new cuverie, barrel cellar, storage room, office, reception room and tasting room offering a picturesque panoramic view of the village.

François Feuillet, the businessman behind the success of Domaine David Duband

The collaboration between David Duband and enlightened businessman François Feuillet is at the heart of Domaine Duband's success. Insightful businessman François Feuillet recognized David Duband's exceptional potential as a winemaker. Indeed, just over half of David Duband's vines are owned by François Feuillet, demonstrating a fruitful alliance between the winemaker's talent and the investor's discerning vision.

The Terroir of Domaine David Duband in Chevannes

Thanks to Burgundy climates and precise vinification, David Duband creates elegant, fine Burgundy wines, highlighting the noble bitterness of the cob during maceration. The wines, aged in oak barrels with 30% new barrels, reveal the true color of pinot noir, favoring round rather than aggressive tannins.

Here's what you need to know about Domaine David Duband's different terroirs:

Hautes Côtes de Nuits: Cradle of the Domaine, offering fresh whites and ready-to-drink reds.
Côte de Nuits-Village: Varied slopes with rich terroirs from Comblanchien to Brochon.
Nuits St Georges: Diverse soils, the 1er Cru Les Procès stands out for its minerality.
Vosne-Romanée: Mixture of limestone and clayey marl at different depths.
Chambolle-Musigny: Shallow soil at 250-300 m, with 1er Cru Les Sentiers among the greats.
Morey-St-Denis: Combe changing exposures, Clos de la Roche is a mineral Grand Cru.
Gevrey-Chambertin: Premiers Crus at 280-380 m altitude, with a masculine yet elegant village.

An entirely organic vineyard

Convinced of the need to relearn the subtleties of viticulture, David Duband has committed himself to exploring organic farming techniques. Indeed, switching to organic treatment of the vines without any chemical weedkillers was an unavoidable decision for David Duband, motivated not only by the environmental effects, but above all by an unwavering quest for quality in his wines. Beyond simple ecological considerations, he felt it was essential to reorient his viticultural approach in order to magnify the potential of the terroir and of each vine stock. For him, working the vines requires meticulous observation and in-depth analysis at every stage of the winemaking process.
